Living with your head perpetually in far-away lands is not a great place to be, unless you have your heart and your loved ones right there with you. That’s why we’re taking action.
In a month’s time, we’re leaving London to spend six full months on the road. Leaving the routine, leaving the hustle, leaving the steady paycheck (although—to be totally fair—with the security of knowing it’s available on the other side), and leaving the known for the thrill of the spontaneous. And it’s probably worth mentioning that we’re doing it with a 10 month-old son, too.
We do have an itinerary which includes extended visits to Norway, Israel, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, but we also have the mindset (and One World Round-the-World tickets to enable) that we’re going to be flexible. However, this trip is less about seeing the sights and more about being present wherever we are.
A life less restless. That’s what we’re after. Releasing the feeling built up over many many years that “there’s something else I’m meant to be doing today” by doing exactly what we want to do every day, for a lot of days in a row. Some days that will mean a new adventure and some days that will mean doing absolutely nothing except being present. Each day will include changing diapers and that’s just fine with us. We’ll be documenting the things we learn and many of the experiences we have through photos, video and writing, because we enjoy that. That’s where this blog comes in.
We’re going to do our best to make our shares entertaining, thought-provoking and above-all, inspirational. That said, we recognize that we are a taking an extended break from some of life’s most frustrating responsibilities, and you most likely are not—at least not yet. Some of our posts may feel self-indulgent to you but once again, that’s just fine with us. We only hope that these will help you realize, too, that your path is not set in stone and it’s the detours we take that make us realize this the most.
We don’t intend to share regularly on Facebook or Instagram so if you want to hear and see what we’re up to, just drop your e-mail below.
We’re excited, and if we’re being honest, we’re not the least bit nervous. The opportunity to be present with ourselves and each other—particularly as Bodhi grows and changes before our eyes—is one we would not trade for anything. We are grateful for everything we have earned and been given throughout our lives. Now we’re ready to really take this show on the road. Join us, will you?
